Message from Top Management

President's Greetings

I, first of all, thank you very much for your patronage toward our company and products.

Production of plastics in Japan started a century ago. Dr. Leo Baekeland developed phenolic resin in the United States in 1907 and he named that first synthetic resin "Bakelite". In 1911, mediated by Dr. Jokichi Takamine, the rights to execute the patents of phenolic resin was granted, and Sankyo Company (currently Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd.) began manufacturing phenolic resin. This business was later succeeded by Nippon Bakelite Co., Ltd. - the predecessor of our company, who then merged with Sumitomo Synthetic Resin Industries, Ltd. to form Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd., and it has been continued up to today.

Over the years, many different types of plastics were invented and developed. Because of the mass productivity, functionality, reliability, and other advantages, plastics are covering a wide range of applications covering from aerospace industry products to livingware for our daily life. Plastics have become indispensable materials in today's society and are still continue to evoke and grow. Our company, long being a pioneer in plastics, has expanded our business globally, with a pride and a strong sense of mission.

We believe that our mission is to generate value for our customers, to create and provide new functions, and to build up trustful relations with our customers through CS (customer satisfaction) activities. In other words, we seek for higher quality, productivity, improved services and innovation. it is a constant pursuit of quality, productivity, and improved service as well as innovation. By fulfilling this mission, we can establish a closer partnership with our customers in a win-win relations that will ensure sustainable growth, and we can contribute to the development of markets and society.

Our company currently operates business in 13 countries worldwide. As we continue to expand our global activities,. we will exert our utmost efforts to observe local laws, understand and appreciate individual cultures, and further develop and strengthen our corporate governance. As a chemical company, we support and adhere to our industry's Responsible Care Global Charter, protect the environment, establish low-carbon technologies, and strive for minimizing environmental impact of our products throughout their life cycle.

We will take advantage of all knowledge and technologies related to plastics that have been accumulated since our founding, in research, production, sales, and market development. By using our youthful power with innovative ideas, we will create customer value, add new functions to products, and aim at being a company contributes to the protection of environment and the society.
Our present management policy focuses the following specific areas to create new demand.

  • Strengthening the competitiveness in the three business areas of IT Components & Materials, High Performance Plastics, and Quality of Life.
  • Providing next-generation solutions that anticipate customer needs.
  • Reinforcing competitiveness in "Monodzukuri" (the Integration of Skill, Technology and Science)
  • Promoting marketing and CS (customer satisfaction) activities with an emphasis on the "B to B business style".
