President’s Greetings

It has been more than 100 years since the production of plastics in Japan began. In 1911, the Sankyo Co., Ltd. (currently Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd.) received the rights from Dr. Baekeland of the United States to execute the Japanese patents through Dr. Jokichi Takamine, and it developed a business in Bakelite (phenolic resin) products. This business was carried on by Nippon Bakelite Co., Ltd., which later became the Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd.
Meanwhile, the plastics have been invented and developed in many different types and products. They still have been developed and advanced as essential materials for products from everyday items, transport equipment, medical equipment and semiconductors to the aerospace industry. As a true pioneer in those plastics, we have been striving to expand our business globally considering contribution for the social development as a part of our mission through creating more advanced functionality and building customers’ value.
In particular, we fundamentally focus on the concept "Customer Satisfaction (CS) First". We work to increase our points of contact with our customers and interact closely with them for drawing out their true needs and developing products in tandem with customers. It is connected to provide our customers with smiles not only with our company’s growth but also with social contributions.
At present, Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. conducts business in 16 countries and regions around the world. Not only do we comply with the laws and regulations of each country, but we also strive to understand the culture of each country for enhancing and strengthening our corporate governance. Moreover, as a chemical company, we also believe that it is important to fulfill our social responsibilities by incorporating environmental safety in our operations.
Our goal is to become a company that creates and provides smiles to all our stakeholders through our business.
It is my sincerest hope and desire that we could receive your continued valuable patronage and support.

President S.Hayashi
