Development of the CRX Series of Photosensitive Materials
for Mini/Micro LED Displays

Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiko Fujiwara) announced today that it has developed the Sumiresin Excel® CRX series, a photosensitive material for mini/micro LED displays, and has begun practical testing.


Development Background

In 1997, we Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. became the first company in the world to mass-produce positive photosensitive semiconductor wafer-coating materials (Sumiresin Excel® CRC Series).

Mini/Micro LED displays are attracting a great deal of attention as next-generation displays suitable for applications such as outdoor displays and AR glasses due to their high brightness, high contrast, etc., and it is said that mass production will begin around 2022. However, its manufacture is highly difficult, and it is expected that photosensitive insulating materials with good litho. performance, insulation reliability, and high adhesion will be required for high-density packaging of LED chips.
In order to utilize our company's photosensitive insulating material technology in semiconductor industry and to contribute to the degree of freedom in process design, we prepared samples with additional functions. Additional features include low-temperature curing, high transparency, component adhesion, and thick film workability. We provide products with necessary functions for each application.

Several display manufacturers have already started to evaluate our materials, and we are aiming for mass production in 2022.
Our company aims to expand sales of the CRX series by 1 billion yen in the future.
