Sumitomo Bakelite Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiko Fujiwara) has decided to announce a price increase to all customers on multilayer films and sheets for food packaging and various composite films for industrial use.
Suppliers of various raw and base materials for our film products have their prices increased sharply due to recent increase in crude oil and naphtha prices.
Furthermore, transportation costs including sea containers have also increased substantially, and although we have been taking every possible effort to reduce costs through structural reforms and other measures, it is extremely difficult for us to recover from this situation through self-help efforts.
In particular, we have been requested to allocate more production capacity for industrial films due to recent increase in demand for semiconductors and electronic components, and we need to increase production capacity including the additional investment of facilities.
In order to ensure a stable supply and business continuity in the future, we hereby request our customers to revise selling prices to compensate the higher costs and to review prices of unprofitable products.
Our request to customers is as follows.
