We Continue to Innovate Technology Higher and Higher

Historically, the oldest plastic, known as phenolic resin, was developed by Dr. Baekeland, an American of Belgian ancestry in 1907. We first manufactured bakelite in 1911 in Japan. The name of our company originated with this achievement. Dr. Jokichi Takamine, a close friend of Dr. Baekeland was authorized to use the patent rights legally. And so, the Shinagawa plant of Sankyo Co., Ltd. began to manufacture trial products in 1911. They were the pioneer of Japanese plastic industry. In 1932, the bakelite department of Sankyo Co.,Ltd. independently separated into Nippon Bakelite Co., Ltd. Besides, Nippon Bakelite Co., Ltd. was merged into Sumitomo Kakozai Industries, Ltd. in 1955. As the pioneer of plastics, we have developed new methods to make use of high technology and modern facilities in order to contribute to society's continual drive to realize a safe and comfortable living.
